brocantehome: A Very Crunchy Christmas

Your right things do "seem" different this year. I am more aware of the need to trim away where ever I might and to practice a mild frugality in regards to selecting gifts for others.
I hear that in my head and almost scream because I know I am going to go in the morning and buy that cool sweater for Sis or the really dumb but unmistakeably perfect hat for my husband, and of course my grand daughter has to have the zebra bedspread to go with the zebra stripe curtains I've made ( she is into a black and white and pink theme for her bedroom)...I just keep saying to myself..."there is a big difference between being frugal and being stingy old girl...keep your head and carry on."

...I agree whole heartedly with all your comments - my tree however is SPECTACULAR this year, such modesty eh!! And the lovely thing is, the colour scheme (red and white and gold) evolved organically.

I came across some gorgeous star and heart shaped baubles in a local charity shop, and later, in yet another charity shop spied a huge bag filled with other peoples disgarded decorations, in amongst which were the most beautiful wooden painted red hearts and some gold beauties from John Lewis.

You all know the thrill of finding these treasures when you're not even looking! So my tree is gorgeous , we have our health and that is more than enough for this year. Merry Christmas to All Brocante Home regulars! x

I don't know what to think of the economy...the news reporters say one thing, but I am not seeing a change in my friends or community, in their spending habits...

Since I would rather be safe than sorry, we are paring down some for Christmas. But, the festivity is still around! Last night, we attended our town's Christmas parade, and it was fantastic! It seemed all of the community turned out.

Now, I am on to organizing bills for the week and finishing up some decorating (where am I going to put these Christmas boxes?!). Have a wonderful week!

As usual, in my opinion, your view of the world is almost right on with mine. You just say it better.

Christmas is not, nor has it ever been, a "retail opportunity". The fact that so many have been sucked into a lot of clever marketing doth not mean we've all been hoodwinked. I'm only sorry that things have had to come to such a drastic end in order to make us re-assess our priorities.

Christmas has done and always will hold a special and lasting place in my life.
